  News Release
The following is a news release from the Oregon Teacher Standards and Commission. If there are more details that we can provide for you, please feel free to contact us (see Contact Us).
Updated: Opportunity for Social Studies Endorsement
Released: Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 5:00 PM
Middle-level teachers wishing to add a social studies endorsement should consider taking the two tests as soon as possible. The two tests required are: PRAXIS (0081) Social Studies: Content Knowledge which requires a passing score of 158; the second test is: PRAXIS (0085) Social Studies: Interpretation and Analysis in which a passing score has not yet been set because it is being newly adopted. Therefore, all people who now take the (0085) test will pass. To achieve the endorsement, BOTH tests must be passed. We will set the score for the social studies (0085) test early in 2004. Please encourage teachers to consider this option.

Depending on the type of license you hold, there may be other requirements for you to add the endorsement to your license, such a completing a program and/or getting practicum experience. Your license would have to be evaluated to determine exactly which requirements, in addition to passing the tests, apply to your license.

The next test dates for these are: January 10, 2004; (registration by December 9, 2003 required) and March 6, 2004 (registration by February 3, 2004) required. Please visit the ETS Web page for late registration details at: www.ets.org/praxis

The Commission will be considering adoption of a passing score at the May meeting. Tests (0085 only) taken prior to the adoption date will be accepted as passing.
