Released: Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 5:00 PM
Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Victoria Chamberlain, J.D., as the new Executive Director. Dr. David Myton, current TSPC Executive Director, has served TSPC for the last 26 years and will be retiring on June 30, 2002.

A national executive search conducted by the Oregon School Boards Association led to the hiring of Ms. Victoria Chamberlain. Ms. Chamberlain brings with her the experience, knowledge, and passion to build on the great work completed by Dr. Myton. At her recent ratification before the Commission on May 16, 2002, Ms. Chamberlain stated "For the better part of the past twenty-two years, I have been closely connected to statewide education policy as an educator, school boards advocate, community college association executive director and as a community college administrator. I am excited about the opportunity to bring my education, work experience and advocacy skills together to serve the many partnerships that depend directly on TSPC for service. I believe in Oregon's schools, colleges and universities and in the high quality education we deliver in our state. I am committed to help maintain that quality through a collaborative and inclusive leadership style." Dr. John Young, OSBA Executive Director Search Consultant, prepared a summary of Ms. Chamberlain's education and experience.

Ms. Chamberlain's ratification before the full Commission was by unanimous vote. "We are excited to have Ms. Chamberlain join our TSPC team", said Carolyn Ortman, chair of the Commission. "She follows in the steps of a well-respected director and we have every confidence that the talents she brings will serve TSPC well."

Ms. Chamberlain assumes the TSPC directorship on June 1, 2002. For further information, please contact Melody Hanson, TSPC Executive Assistant, at 503-373-1260.
