New Deputy Director / Coordinator of Teacher Education
Released: Friday, May 21, 2004 at 5:00 PM

Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith Menk as the new Deputy Director and Coordinator of Teacher Education. Keith will assume the position formerly occupied by Karen Edwards. Keith joined TSPC officially on May 10, 2004, so he can spend the next few months with Karen getting to understand the position.

Karen Edwards remains the Deputy Director/Coordinator of Teacher Education until her departure in mid to late August. She is working to complete the competency work needed for program approvals during NCATE and future state site visits. Karen was able to complete an enormous amount of work in her short tenure at TSPC.

Keith is a Western Oregon University graduate and was a licensed educator in the 1980's. His career path led him to human resources which involved significant experiences in training and hiring as it relates to cultural diversity. He was Vickie Chamberlain's mentor when it came to expanding contacts within Oregon's diversity community. He is highly respected and well-regarded in these circles. Keith has experience in large-group trainings, policy development, auditing development and implementation and has worked for state government for over 22 years. He understands the role TSPC needs in the position balancing technical assistance with program regulation.

Keith will meet with each of the Deans and Directors as quickly as possible to ask about what they would like to see in the Coordinator of Teacher Education portion of the position. Keith can be reached via e-mail at keith.menk@state.or.us or at 503-373-1021 until August when he will assume Karen's existing telephone number of 503-378-3757.
