  Meeting on new HQT Standards for Special Education Teachers
  Released: Friday, December 17, 2004 at 5:00 PM
 
 
 
The federal definition of "highly qualified" for special education teachers was signed by President Bush on December 3, 2004. TSPC has convened a Stakeholder Committee to discuss administrative rule proposals to meet the federal definition. Please see the earlier News Release dated December 13, 2004, entitled "New HQT Standards for Special Education Teachers" for additional information.

The following Stakeholder Committee was appointed to discuss a possible proposal for Oregon.

The Committee will meet on Monday, January 3, 2005, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the University of Portland campus, 5000 North Willamette Blvd, Portland, in the Buckley Center, Room 163. Others attending will be invited to provide input.

The Committee's recommendations on administrative rules for highly qualified special education teachers may be considered at the Commission meeting on January 13-14 for an emergency rule adoption. If not, their proposals may be considered at the next Commission meeting on March 10-11, 2005.

Directions to the University of Portland Campus are:

From Interstate Highway-5 Heading North

From I-5, take the Portland Blvd. exit (#304)
Take a left onto Portland Blvd.
Follow Portland Blvd. to Willamette Blvd., where you will take a right
Stay on Willamette Blvd. for approximately one-and-a-half miles; the main entrance to the University will be on your left hand side

From Interstate Highway-5 Heading South

From I-5, take the Portland Blvd. exit (#304)
Take a right onto Portland Blvd.
Follow Portland Blvd. to Willamette Blvd., where you will take a right
Stay on Willamette Blvd. for approximately one-and-a-half miles; the main entrance to the University will be on your left hand side

From Portland International Airport

From the Portland Airport exit road (Airport Way) turn right on 82nd Avenue
Turn right on Columbia Blvd.; continue for approximately 7 miles
Turn left on Portsmouth Avenue
Turn left on Willamette Blvd
The main entrance to the University will be on your right-hand side

The University's Web site has a map of the campus. The Buckley Center is shown as #12 on the map. Signs directing you to Room 163 will be posted.

Parking is available in the main parking lot. It is the first right as you come in the main entrance. No parking permits are required.
