  News Release

The following is a news release from the Oregon Teacher Standards and Commission. If there are more details that we can provide for you, please feel free to contact us (see Contact Us).

  ESOL Summit - April 7, 2008, 1 pm to 4 pm
Released: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 5:00 PM

The commission is sponsoring a dialogue to consider the preparation requirements for educators seeking endorsements in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Currently the demand for high quality ESOL educators is very high. However, the commission is concerned that the needs for second language children may require that additional preparation is essential for ESOL teachers to be successful delivering Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.

The commission is holding a facilitated discussion regarding whether to require an academic program prior to adding the ESOL endorsement to a license.

The discussion is scheduled for April 7, 2008, at the Best Western Black Bear Inn
Conference Center, 1600 Motor Court NE, in Salem, Oregon from 1 to 4 pm. Space is limited so please RSVP immediately if you are interested in attending.
