The next meeting of the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission on August 5-7, 2009, will be held at The Oregon Garden Resort, 895 West Main Street, in Silverton OR.

There will be a Program Approval Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 4, at the University of Phoenix, Salem campus beginning at 9 a.m. On Wednesday, August 5, pre-meeting "committee meetings" will begin at 8 a.m. The agenda is currently in the draft stages, but Friday, August 7, will be reserved to consider disciplinary cases. The final agenda, listing agenda items and attachments, will be available on our Web site approximately 10 days prior to the meeting.

The Oregon Garden Resort boasts a main lodge, which houses meeting space, a restaurant, lounge, full-service day spa and an exercise room. A heated outdoor swimming pool and hot tub are set behind the main lodge. The restaurant features sweeping views of the 80 acre Oregon Garden and the Willamette Valley. A tram is available to guide you through the gardens April through October. An adjacent Garden Gift Shop offers souvenirs, books, tools, seeds, toys and more. And there is also the Summer Concert series.

The guest rooms are nestled in a series of buildings throughout the grounds behind the main lodge. Each building has six rooms. Each room features a fireplace, microwave, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, triple-sheeted beds, DSL lines, in-room coffee service and a private garden deck or patio. Ample parking is available both at the main lodge and around the rooms. All guestrooms, including patio areas, are designated smoke-free.

Lodging arrangements have been made for Commissioners to stay at The Oregon Garden Resort. TSPC does have a small block of rooms reserved for interested parties. You will be responsible for making your own reservation and the cost of your room, tax and incidentals. Single occupancy king and double queen rooms are available for $70. There is an additional charge of $15 for each extra person. Rollaway beds are not available. A few of the buildings are pet friendly. Please call the Moonstone Hotels Central Reservations at 1-800-966-6490 and identify yourself as a member of the Teacher Standards & Practices group. Cut-off date to secure a room under TSPC room block is July 11, 2009. Your reservation must be guaranteed by credit card.

The Garden View restaurant at Oregon Garden Resort serves a hot buffet breakfast at no extra charge for guests. People not staying at the resort are welcome to have breakfast for a nominal fee. During the meeting, morning refreshments will be provided.

Nearby attractions include the Silver Falls State Park, galleries, wine country and shopping. There are also lots of downtown Silverton restaurants and places to be sure to visit. Or visit the Garden's Web site at http://www.oregongarden.org/index.html.
