  Preview Of August 2009 Commission Meeting

  * TSPC will meet August 5-7, 2009

The Teacher Standards and Practices Commission will meet August 5-7, 2009, at The Oregon Garden Resort, 895 West Main Street, Silverton OR in the Orchid Room. Commission Committees will convene informally for one hour to discuss items on the agenda and the full Commission will convene on Wednesday, August 5th, at 9:00 a.m. to consider Preliminary Business, recognize valued partners, hear a presentation on new teacher licensure tests available and consider Program Approval agenda items. After recessing for dinner on Wednesday evening, the Commission will engage in a discussion with stakeholders and among themselves regarding the direction they want to take new program approval standards.

On Thursday, August 6th, the Commission will reconvene at 8:00 a.m. to consider Professional Practices issues with professional development related to educator misconduct at 10:00 a.m. These issues will be followed by a presentation on the latest Supply and Demand Report plus consideration of Licensure, Commission Business and consideration of administrative rules. Thursday evening, if necessary, the Commission will reconvene following dinner on their own, to either finish business from the previous two days or start consideration of discipline cases. All business related to discipline cases will be conducted in Executive Session.

On Friday, August 7th, the Commission will reconvene at 8:00 a.m. in Executive Session (non-public) to consider disciplinary cases. Immediately following, the Commission will then convene in public session for full Commission consideration of discipline issues.

* Program Approval for Northwest Christian University; University of Oregon; and Oregon State University
* NCATE Update
* Higher Education Act Update
* New ODE K-12 Technology Standards
* Legislation related to Preservice Candidate Discipline
* Special Education Standards
* Scope of Administrator Licenses
* Employee Furloughs
* Continuing Professional Development
* Legislation related to a Pilot Educator Reproval Program
* Proposed Changes to the Conditional Assignment Rule
* Proposed Changes to the Restricted Transitional Teaching License
* Possible Creation of an International Visiting Teacher License
* Dual Credit Issues related to Licensure
* A Report on the 2009 Legislature on issues related to TSPC

Directions to the Oregon Garden Resort:

If you are traveling North on I-5 from the Eugene area.
1. Take the Keizer/Chemawa Exit, exit 260.
2. Turn right off the ramp onto Chemawa Rd. to head east towards Silverton.
3. Stay straight at the intersection where Chemawa becomes Hazelgreen road
4. You will arrive at a four-way stop, stay straight to remain on Hazelgreen Road.
5. At the next four-way stop, turn right onto Howell Prairie Road.
6. At the following four-way stop, turn left onto Silverton Road.
7. Turn right at the light onto Westfield St. You will pass a Dairy Queen, Safeway and Robert Frost Middle School. You'll soon reach a stop sign where a large church stands in front of you.
8. Turn right onto Main Street/Cascade Highway. The Garden is just a short way down the road on the left hand side. Follow the driveway up the hill to the Resort center.

If you are traveling South on I-5 from the Portland area.
1. Take the Brooks Exit, exit 263. Turn left off the ramp to head east towards Silverton.
2. At intersection with blinking red light turn right onto Hwy 99E.
3. Turn Left onto Hazelgreen Road
4. You will arrive at a four-way stop, stay straight to remain on Hazelgreen Road.
5. At the next four-way stop, turn right onto Howell Prairie Road.
