  News Release
The following is a news release from the Oregon Teacher Standards and Commission. If there are more details that we can provide for you, please feel free to contact us (see Contact Us).
Civil Rights Workshop and Classes NO Longer Accepted
Released: Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 11:10 AM
Effective September 1, 2009, TSPC requires the Protecting Student and Civil Rights in the Educational Environment test in lieu of civil rights workshops or classes. The link to register for this test is: http://www.orela.nesinc.com/index.asp

Please note the following:

1. If you have already COMPLETED a TSPC-approved workshop and have a completion certificate dated prior to September 1, 2009, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE TEST.
2. From September 1, 2009 forward, NO workshops, online courses or other similar means will satisfy the civil rights requirements for the purpose of license.
3. There is a STUDY GUIDE for the test on the registration Web site.

The Commission went to a common test as a means to ensure that all licensees were meeting the same requirement and to include issues in the test related to professional standards of ethical practice and knowledge of principles of equity as it relates to students.

The level and quality of the various courses and workshops was very uneven. The test assures that all Oregon educators have familiarized themselves with knowledge of student and adult civil rights, student equity and ethical standards of conduct.
