  News Release

The following is a news release from the Oregon Teacher Standards and Commission. If there are more details that we can provide for you, please feel free to contact us (see Contact Us).

  Licensure Meeting - July 7, 2010, 9 am to 4 pm
Released: Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 3:53 PM

The commission is sponsoring a dialog to consider two topics of interest - Scope of Administrator Licensure and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

ADMINISTRATIVE LICENSURE (from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.):
The commission is facilitating a discussion regarding what work should require an administrative license. Currently, districts assign various jobs to people with an administrative license or in some cases districts determine that no administrative license is necessary. The discussion will seek input about what are the skills and tasks that require administrative license.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (from 1:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.):
The commission is also seeking input on the continuing professional development requirement for educators working half time or more in a public school in Oregon. After 12 years of experience with this rule, it is important to find out how it's working and whether revisions should be made to improve the rule. This conversation will address the questions raised at previous commission meetings around: Should the commission accredit CPD; who is responsible for sign off on CPD's, should only employed licenses need CPD for renewal, should substitutes be required to submit CPD hours, how do we ensure high quality professional development training for educators?

The meeting is scheduled for July 7, 2010, at the Oregon Education Association (OEA) located at 6900 SW Atlanta St., Portland, Oregon from 9 am to 4 pm. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. Please plan on lunch on your own.
