Released: Friday, June 6, 2003 at 5:00 PM
Teacher Standards and Practices Commission is reviewing the requirements for teacher licensure and teacher preparation during 2003. This review is conducted biennially in accordance with the Attorney General's Model Rules of Procedure. Public comment is invited on current licensure requirements.

Individuals or organizations desiring changes in licensure requirements should submit a petition for rule change. Written comments on current rules and petitions to amend or establish rules for teacher licensure and teacher preparation must be submitted to TSPC by July 6, 2003.

Comments and petitions will be summarized and analyzed by TSPC staff and the commission's licensure committee prior to TSPC's August meeting. As a part of the August meeting, TSPC will hold a public hearing on current rules and will accept oral testimony on petitions received by July 6, 2003.

On August 6, TSPC will either initiate rule-making proceedings to implement petitions or will deny the petitions. Under the Attorney General's Model Rules, these decisions must be made within 30 days of receipt of a petition. Changes resulting from the review may be scheduled for adoption in October 2003.
